Dating back to the late nineteenth century, the building has served several purposes over the decades, including functioning as a regional bank and later as a local hair salon. Today, its purpose is perhaps its most meaningful yet—serving as a home filled with compassion and care for those who need it most.

The organisation operates under the guidance of Young World Educare NPO, whose commitment to serving vulnerable members of the community has transformed Hartshuis into far more than a residential facility. It has become a centre of hope where volunteers, caregivers, churches, businesses, schools, and community members work together to improve the lives of others.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Hartshuis is the spirit of volunteerism that surrounds it.
